At first thought, I thought that this reflection wouldn't be useful because I didn't see anything good come from my general education courses, but upon further review, I realized that I built some very good teamwork skills because of how hard some of the general education courses at Iowa State are. For example, I had a study group when I took French 301 and French 302. I don't think I would have done as well if I hadn't been in that group learning setting. We were allowed to not only become friends through the process, but we were also able to enhance each other's knowledge because some individuals picked up on certain concepts faster than others, and they would share their insight and would receive it as well.
My current short term goals are to finish college and find a decent paying job and figuring out what I want to do with the rest of my life. I'd prefer a career in the semiconductor manufacturing field or VLSI design. Long term, I don't have any pressing desires for of my education or my career. Though, I would prefer working in a group setting because being able to bounce ideas off of each other is what I thrive on.
My general education electives have showed me to work in groups as well as solve problems. Solving problems is the major item that sorts out engineers from the rest of the professions. Engineers are able to take a problem and come up with a working solution that hopefully will yield profit for a company. Working through these general education courses, I have developed along the path of taking a larger seemingly impossible problem and break it down into more manageable chunks and tackling those one at a time.
